A Chorus Line: Ages 13+ Mature Content

We are thrilled to produce BOTH the original broadway production as well as the school version of A Chorus Line!  Audiences will have their choice of seeing the appropriate-for-all-ages “High School Edition” or performances for ages 13+ with “Original Mature Content.”  We have also received exclusive permission to restore the more advanced dance breaks that were cut down for the school edition for all of our performances.  Don't miss this singular sensation!  See below for specific information about the differences between the two versions (SPOILERS).

Knocking the theatre world off its axis in 1975, A Chorus Line was perhaps the most groundbreaking musical since Oklahoma (1943) and has only recently been matched in game-changing status by Hamilton (2015). Rather than relying on lavish sets or famous stars, A Chorus Line pulls back the curtain on the life of Broadway performers. One of the pioneering shows of the devised theatre form, the story originated not from a playwright’s imagination but from actual tape recordings of the original cast sharing stories from their lives. The candid and honest stories are woven together in a non-traditional documentary-style that seamlessly blends spectacular dancing, iconic songs, and alternately hilarious and devastating monologues. A Chorus Line was the longest running show in Broadway history in its time and won nine Tonys including Best Musical as well as the rare-for-musicals Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Conceived and originally directed by Michael Bennett. Music by Marvin Hamlisch, Lyrics by Edward Kleban, and Book by James Kirkwod and Nicholas Dante.  Co-choreographed by Bob Avian.

A CHORUS LINE and A CHORUS LINE HIGH SCHOOL EDITION are presented by arrangement with Tams-Witmark.  www.tamswitmark.com

What's the difference between the two versions?

SPOILERS: All but a few moments are identical.  The full ensemble dance breaks from the original are in both, Paul's monologue is still an honest story of coming to accept who he is, and there are still allusions to awkward experiences of adolescence.  All of the heart and exuberance of the original are maintained in the School Edition, although fans of the show will notice substantial differences in Val's song, Dance: 10; Looks: 3 and in Don, Greg, and Mark's brief monologues about coming of age.

The PG-13 grade swearing has been removed from the School Edition, as well as mentions of STD's, past sexual encounters, growing breasts, and hiding erections.  All of the above is included in the Ages 13+ Original Mature Content version.

Please POWER DOWN all cell phones and electronic devices as their signals interfere with our sound system, their screens disturb other patrons, and their notification sounds distract the performers and audience.

Snacks and beverages are available for sale in the commons before and between shows.  Please enjoy before entering the theater--it keeps our space clean and minimizes distractions to the actors and audience during the show.
